Seattle Seahawks complete huge offseason task with plenty of time to spare following latest move
USA TODAY Sports

Last year, the Seattle Seahawks had to wait until the third day of training camp to get their draft class signed as fifth overall pick Devon Witherspoon held out.

They have had no such problems this year.

The Seahawks on Friday signed tackle Michael Jerrell, their final pick in the 2024 draft at 207th overall in the sixth round, to his rookie contract.

It means that all eight members of the Seahawks' rookie class have signed their contracts, Seattle achieving that feat with over two months until training camp begins.

Witherspoon's holdout last year had no impact on his performance, with the versatile cornerback enjoying the best rookie year of any player in Seattle's 2023 draft class.

In fact, save for Witherspoon, the Seahawks' rookie class from last year was largely underwhelming.

They'll hope that does not prove the case this year after their first draft with Mike MacDonald as head coach.

The high hopes Seattle has for this crop of rookies are largely not connected to Jerrell, but rather defensive tackle Byron Murphy II and guard Christian Haynes.

Murphy was the second defensive player off the board in the draft while the Seahawks got a steal in former UConn lineman Haynes, who fell to them into the third round and should be a plug-and-play starter at right guard.

Seattle is also confident linebacker Tyrice Knight could prove a value pick in the fourth round. The Seahawks took Auburn corners Nehemiah Pritchett and D.J. James in the fifth and sixth round respectively but were reported to have a fourth-round grade on both.

The Seahawks' 2024 draft will be defined by the performance of Murphy, but they have reason to believe they have found several potential impact players. With all members of it now under contract, the Seahawks can afford to rest easy for a little while.
