'Bad, just not comfortable,' Max Verstappen admits Red Bull needs to improve after ‘difficult’ Friday at Emilia Romagna GP
John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Red Bull has faced some competition from rivals in 2024. The Austrian team lost two of the first six races of the season. Hence, Milton Keynes brought in multiple upgrades for the RB20 at the Emilia Romagna GP. However, Max Verstappen has faced multiple issues with the car and was vocal regarding his dissatisfaction with the upgrades.

Max Verstappen channeled his frustrations and said that the first day at the Emilia Romagna GP had been tough. The Dutchman found it difficult to find the right balance with the car. Additionally, the chassis struggled to find the right grip. The 26-year-old felt that the car was very easy to lose while driving around the track. Verstappen labeled the day as ‘bad and uncomfortable’.

A difficult day. Just difficult to get a good balance and just not really feeling comfortable in the car, moving around a lot, It's very easy to lose the car, so we have a few things that we have to look at because today definitely.... just bad, just not comfortable. Max Verstappen said, as reported by motorsport.com.

Apart from this, Verstappen highlighted that the long run around the Imola circuit was ‘really bad’. Hence, Red Bull has a lot of things to improve over the weekend to be competitive on the race weekend. Moreover, the 26-year-old accepted that the team was severely off the pace and hence couldn’t top the timing sheets. Milton Keynes hopes to bounce back by the main race and fight for victory.

Also the long run was really bad, so definitely a few things that we have to improve if we want to be competitive tomorrow. Today we were just severely off the pace that we need to fix. Max Verstappen highlighted.

Max Verstappen claims the rivals took a ‘step forward’ at the Emilia Romagna GP

Red Bull’s rivals too have brought in upgrades to their challengers this weekend. Ferrari and McLaren have closely followed Milton Keynes’ performance in the 2024 season. The practice sessions were topped by Ferrari as Maranello has been extremely close to replicating Verstappen’s pace. Hence, Verstappen joked that the situation couldn’t be worse than the two sessions on Friday.

I guess it can't be worse than what we had today, right? Max Verstappen added.

Additionally, the 26-year-old reckoned that the team will revisit the issues of the weekend and improve them soon. However, Verstappen wasn’t hesitant to acknowledge the fact that the rival teams had taken a step forward. Meanwhile, Red Bull had a very bad day during the initial two practice sessions at Imola.

We'll look at a few things that we can do better for tomorrow. But yeah, it looks a bit like the others took a bit of a step forward. And from our side just a bad day. Max Verstappen concluded.

Hence, Red Bull will likely continue their dominant performance in the 2024 season. The team just needs to retrace the issues and fix them quickly. Milton Keynes has been competing with Ferrari since the season’s beginning as the Italian constructor tries to finally topple the Austrian team in the constructors’ championship.
